He has furthered the IH profession and helped others to advance in it as; two time president of the Pittsburgh Local Section of the AIHA, by mentoring young industrial hygiene and safety professionals in his consultation businesses, and for young safety and health students at local colleges. Many of the safety and health professionals he mentored in his business have gone on to successful safety and health careers for other companies.
He has also advanced the profession by giving technical presentations at many professional and industry association meetings, through submission of articles in professional publications, by serving as the chairman of the Western Pennsylvania Safety Council annual conferences in 2001 and 2002, through serving on the board of directors of the Western Pennsylvania Safety Council from 1997 until 2005, and as a founding board member of the Mid-Atlantic Safety and Health Association. He was also the lead founding professional of the safety and health committee of the
Association of Iron & Steel Technology (AIST).
We believe that Bernie’s long term dedicated service to the Industrial Hygiene profession demonstrated by his service and success makes him a well-qualified candidate to receive the title of “AIHA Fellow” this year.
